In spite of obstacles such as muddy roads,
Canyonites managed to travel beyond the boundaries of Gallatin County.
Bessie Stratton Turner recalls leaving Bridger Canyon on June 28,
en route to Yellowstone National Park.
As their party rode up Gallatin Canyon,
travelling by spring wagon,
top buggy and covered wagon,
the men had to cut and move fallen trees which lay in their path.
Often they had to dig their way out of mud holes.
